A mysterious tissue has been discovered in the jaws of saber-toothed frogs

The gland-like tissues produce volatile fatty acid derivatives that are not poisonous. According to Thomas Schmitt, head of the Würzburg group, these substances are often associated with insects and serve as a kind of pheromone to attract other frogs.

More research is needed to confirm the theory. In any case, the mysterious tissue helps frogs communicate through chemical signals when the environment is too noisy to hear each other.
