Swiss scientists have predicted when the Alps will be almost ice-free

The University of Lausanne (Switzerland) said that by the “equator” of this century, the mass of ice in the Alps will shrink by 34%, regardless of whether humanity succeeds in halting or stopping global warming.
Artificial intelligence helped researchers run computer simulations of glacier development in the Alps. One of the scenarios implied the cessation of warming in 2022. But it turned out that even in this case, the inertia of the climate system would make the glaciers lose about a third of their volume.
